Posture Exercise in Standing
Physical Therapist Margaret Martin demonstrates how to improve your posture with this simple standing exercise.
Our standing alignment is important in so many ways. Practice good standing alignment and it will gradually build a healthier pattern that we can to transfer into all of our standing activities.
Whether you are sharing a story with a neighbour, going for a walk, or waiting for the volley of your opponent's tennis serve, how you stand can support you. When done improperly, it can cause further degenerative changes as you age. The simple act of standing with good alignment, optimizes our bodies performance.
In this episode, we start from our foot position and work our way up to the crown of our head.
Future episodes will cover important concepts such as finding our neutral pelvis and our neutral shoulder blade position. These will allow us to fine tune what we will cover in this first episode.
I encourage you to follow along and consciously integrate these first steps into your day. It can be for seconds or minutes at a time. Each effort we make will allow us to feel more and more comfortable with the feeling of standing taller. The ultimate goal is that the line between practicing and the line between just being become one.
